June 19, 1997: baby Kyle gets ready for his first bath while at Children's Hospital.
Nov. 4, 1997: Dr. Kawabori of Seattle Children's Hospital gives a "thumbs up" to a healthy heart!
Kyle's hole in his heart was rather large and it was initially thought that Kyle would need heart surgery when he reached 12 months of age. The Digoxin, doctors said, would only minimize the size of the hole. It wouldn't close the hole. Since performing surgery on an infant was extremely risky, doctors recommended that Kyle reach the age of one before undergoing heart surgery.
Kyle remained at Children's hospital for four days following his birth and visited Seattle Children's Hospital numerous times during the next three months for various heart tests. At Kyle's three month checkup, tests confirmed something extraordinary. The hole in Kyle's heart had closed on it's own. Kyle would not need heart surgery after all.
Today, Kyle is a healthy 12 year old. Children's Hospital remains close to all of the Walmsley's hearts (pun intended) for the care and support they provided during Kyle's formative days.
Unfortunately, there are millions of children that have physical and developmental needs that do not heal in a short period of time. Some children face lifelong battles and many surgeries that require incredible strength and perseverance from both the child and the child's family. Children's Hospitals provide exceptional patient care and state-of-the art technology that help our youngest generation to be happy and healthy.
Please consider supporting a Children's Hospital near you. After all, children are the ones that will carry on the Mustang legacy.
There are some great local automotive events that benefit the Seattle Children's Hospital uncompensated healthcare fund. This fund allows the hospital to provide medical care to patients regardless of their ability to pay and ensures that no families' child will be turned away in times of need.
